This position may be covered by a Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association (VEBA) JOB DUTIES:
As a policy analyst with the Department of Labor & Industry, you will research and study policy issues across DLI programs and participate in long term discussions about the Department's policy priorities and how to achieve them.
This position will be part of the Office of Legal Services, reporting to the Deputy Chief Legal for Transactions.
Duties include:
Research national trends and local needs for Departmental programs, including for the Department's attached boards.
Research, draft, and edit policy papers or reports for legislation affecting Departmental programs and attached boards.
Research, draft, and edit legislation and administrative rules for Departmental programs and attached boards.
May include drafting and reviewing administrative rules for DLI and its attached boards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:
If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities:
Exemplary written, verbal, and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and work successfully with Department staff, agency staff, board members, legislators, and Montana citizens.
Review, interpret, and provide policy and planning information, background, and responses to legislators, auditors, and stakeholders.
Knowledge of the state Legislature and Legislative practices and procedures.
Knowledge of Departmental programs, with a special emphasis on occupational licensing.
Ability to read and correctly interpret legislation and statute.
Demonstrated aptitude for identifying, researching, and analyzing complex legal/policy issues, and directing a course of action to resolve problems.
Coordinate and evaluate an agency's policy and planning recommendations from Governor, State Legislature, directors, and other officials and recommend changes.
Research, study, and work with consultants performing research for special assignments involving state or federal legislation, statutes, or policy issues.
Analyze, create, and deliver special reports for policies, proposed legislation, studies, and initiatives.
Coordinate with agency executives, other entities, other agency personnel, and regional and national partners to identify and assess policy issues.
Participate in strategy development with an agency's management team, including coordinating, evaluating, and interpreting policy and planning recommendations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Your preparation for this opportunity could include a combination of relevant experiences including:
Bachelor's degree in business, economics, accounting, finance, marketing, public administration, or related field and at least one year of job-related experience.
OR Any combination of equivalent experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
