Job Purpose Responsible for all management of deli departments including, kitchen, bakery, and deli customer service area.
Trains, along with the assistant deli manager, all cooks, bakers, and customer service personnel.
Provides high quality, nutritious organic and natural foods in a clean, welcoming shopping environment with excellent customer service while meeting goals for sales, labor and profit margin.
Responsibilities Management Lead a team of approximately 15 staff members Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, disciplining and firing of deli staff Provide feedback by reviewing and evaluating performance of staff Implement and maintain systems of operation that work to grow and improve department Evaluate and maintain deli staff morale Supervise the cleanliness of kitchen to ensure health department standards are met Working knowledge of tasks performed by supervised employees Facilitate quality communication within and between departments Track sales, labor and gross profit margin figures Lead deli staff meetings, or appoint facilitator Implement new policies and procedures as needed Act as a member of the Leadership Committee Must understand and support the store and deli mission Customer Service Model of excellence in customer service Portray sincere friendliness even under extenuating or frustrating circumstances Keep current on any store events, activities or promotions to answer customer questions Maintain personal appearance, cleanliness, and hygiene standards appropriate for public contact Purchasing Maintain and improve buying and stocking systems in order to ensure department is well-stocked, attractive and dynamic Approve all recipes to ensure menus and ingredients meet deli nutrition standards Oversee cleaning operations Monitor temperatures in deli cooler, grab and go case, and cheese coffin Review pricing structure and product prices to ensure margins being met Set and try to meet financial goals Evaluate turn ratios and shrink of products Maintain effective sales program including overseeing pricing, display and sign-age aspects Oversee complete and accurate quarterly inventory Other Duties Learn and apply basic surveillance and security procedures to prevent or deter shoplifting Minimize safety hazards, participate, or delegate a staff member to, sit on safety committee Be a Manager on Duty (MOD) Contribute to newsletter and special events planning when needed Perform other duties when assigned Qualifications Possess a high degree of integrity and management skills Have extensive knowledge about recipes, ingredients and healthy cooking practices Have excellent customer service experience Strong written and verbal communication skills, including listening and giving clear instructions Able to make decisions in emergency situations Able to work as a team member with other managers Able to handle a broad range of responsibilities and multi-task Able to work a flexible schedule with a minimum of 35 hours per week Able to read and interpret financial statements Demonstrate computer expertise Must be able to bend, stoop, reach lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds Must be comfortable working on your feet on a concrete floor for 4 hours at a stretch Disclaimer The duties, responsibilities, qualifications, requirements and conditions listed in this job description are representative only and are not exhaustive of the tasks that an employee may be required to perform.
