We are actively seeking a Data Control Tech Specialist who values the vast resources in our treasure state as much as we do.
The Water Resource Division is responsible for managing Montana's water for the present and future needs of its people.
We compile accurate, up-to-date stream flow data from more than 90 monitoring gages, providing critical data for managing reservoirs, irrigation schedules, water rights permitting and adjudication, implementation of Montana's water compacts, floodplain management and other services for farmers, ranchers, citizens and communities.
We also manage the operation and maintenance of 24 state-owned dams and 250 miles of irrigation canals.
The Water Rights Bureau administers the Montana Water Use Act under Title 85, Chapter 2, Montana Codes Annotated.
This act provides for adjudicating Montana's existing or pre- 1973 water rights (the Adjudication Program); acquiring new water rights and changing existing water rights (the New Appropriations Program); and statutorily mandated state-wide centralized water right record system.

Prior to 1973 water rights were recorded, but not consistently, in county courthouses throughout the state.
DNRC Water Rights Bureau maintains the central records system for all permits, changes and certificates issued after June 30, 1973 and for all existing water rights claims as part of the statewide adjudication.
JOB Overview:
The Data Control Tech Specialist is responsible for reviewing and editing in-put and output data related to water rights and digitized images using specialized computer reports specific to the unit.
The person in this position will also focus on managing a records system and digitizing maps by registering digital images into consistent overlays with other maps, correcting for distortions caused by curvature of the Earth, variations in scale, and different map projections.
This position will also participate in various aspects of water rights research, processing forms for water rights, and maintaining instruction manuals on standards and procedures.

This position requires a job-related 2-year vocational training program, and 1 year of experience.
Required Knowledge Considerable knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, and Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of spreadsheet and database software Advanced Knowledge of WORD/EXCEL is preferred.
Knowledge of scanning, saving, rotating, and fixing image properties in scanning software (Capture/FileNet).
General knowledge (understanding) of Records Management practices.
General knowledge of Water Resources Division Programs is desirable.
Knowledge of Montana water law; with water rights, forms and the systematic knowledge of water right file organization is highly desirable or must be acquired during the training and probation period.
Some knowledge of agricultural and rural water use is desirable.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
This position works primarily in an office setting.
However, it is often necessary to move or carry for short distances file boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.
Prepping, scanning and QC'ing (viewing and manipulating images) require attention to detail and have repetitive motions for periods of four (4) hours or more.
QC'ing requires viewing images on a computer screen.
These images are not always clearly focused and therefore may cause eyestrain.
Special Information:
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
