The Trust Land Management Division, under the authority of Montana state laws and administrative rules pertinent to the Department's fiduciary responsibilities, is charged with the administration of 5.
2 million acres of School Trust lands for the benefit of the School Trust and Endowments.
The Division is divided into the Agriculture & Grazing Management Bureau, Minerals Management Bureau, Real Estate Management Bureau, and Forest Management Bureau.
The Agriculture & Grazing Management Bureau, in coordination with field staff, administers all surface activities associated with School Trust Lands on 4.
1 million acres of grazing land and 575,000 acres of agricultural land.
The Agriculture & Grazing Management Bureau also administers and promotes resource development projects on School Trust Lands, including irrigation and livestock water developments, and agricultural and range land improvement projects.
Job Overview:
This position is responsible for a variety of duties for Trust Land surface leasing.
This position performs professional and specialized technical work involving the review and process of the agricultural lease payments received by the department.
The incumbent will implement program objectives related to the rentals of agriculture production on trust land leases.
This work involves the allocation of more than 14 million dollars to specific trust beneficiaries each year.
This position is responsible for processing and managing over 3,500 agricultural rentals for the Trust Lands Management Division (TLMD).
In addition, this position performs detailed accounting to determine the accuracy of payments per acre, evaluates all 3,500 reports to insure all the supporting documentation is provided to the department in accordance to the terms stated in the lease agreement.
Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities):
These job functions are the essential duties of the position and are not all-inclusive of all the duties that may be assigned to the incumbent.
Invoices and receipts agricultural rentals on trust lands utilizing cost accounting practices, knowledge of crop production practices and the Trust Land Management System (TLMS):
On an annual basis, mails, receipts, and enters information from 3,500 croplands seeding reports Generates production reports mailings, receipts, and enters information from cropland production reports and verifies accompanying crop payments and supporting documentation Processes and Procedures Updates processes and procedures as required on a regular basis to support changing needs for the management of data and billing information being entered in the TLMS and the required support information.
Updates procedures of the query changes that are needed to check for missing or incomplete information.
Performs other duties associated with maintenance of surface leases which includes providing information to lessees and the public and correspondence with elevators and State Grain Lab.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
Highschool Diploma Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Requires the ability to understand the programs associated with surface leasing.
This includes the ability to plan, determine priorities, and organize lease management activities and ensure that all deadlines are met.
Requires an understanding of school trust land management and surface leasing statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
Requires a knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and practices as they relate to cost and measurement of cropland commodities.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, lessees, and the public.
Requires an understanding of legal land descriptions.
Requires an understanding of basic farm and ranch operations, especially as it relates to farming procedures and crop production.
Requires competence in detailed work.
Requires the skills to operate a computer, calculator.
Special Information:
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
