The Library is a hub of cultural, recreational and educational activity in Helena, the capital city of Montana.
The first free public Library in Montana Territory, Lewis & Clark Library has strong roots and wide-spreading branches, including our latest addition - a Bookmobile.
The library was recently awarded its 16th annual NEA Big Read Grant.

The Collection and Technical Services Manager position is responsible for strategic leadership, management, and planning responsibilities for Library-wide collection management including centralized selection, acquisitions, processing, and cataloging of all formats within the parameters of the annual budget.
The position has overall responsibility for the Technical Services and Interlibrary Loan Departments and applies knowledge of current issues and trends in electronic resources, digital media, copyright, as well as print and media collections.
The role of Collection and Technical Services Manager will be supported by a team of experienced, talented professionals working in an award-winning, challenging environment.
Essential Functions:
Oversees the development and maintenance of the Library's collection in all formats, including online services, de-selection, and preservation.
Has primary responsibility for selecting adult fiction, adult nonfiction, and adult media.
Coordinates collection management activities with branch libraries and provides direction and guidance on all collection management issues, including equitable system-wide distribution and access to the collection.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of Technical Services positions and Interlibrary Loan Clerks.
Evaluates the Library's collection management requirements and provides recommendations for new services, products, policies, procedures, equipment, and staffing as needed; stays apprised of current trends, issues, and practices in public library and information services.
Develops and administers the materials and processing budget; monitors expenditures and makes budget adjustments as needed in consultation with the Library Director.
Participates in the development of the Library's policies and procedures; communicates, enforces, and supports those when dealing with the public and Library staff.
Prepares reports and statistical analyses as needed; maintains working knowledge of tools used by the Library for gathering, analyzing, and reporting data related to the collection and use of the collection.
Qualifications:
The education and experience considered necessary to perform these duties and responsibilities is typically acquired by earning an ALA-accredited Master's in Library/Information Science (MLS/MLIS) with a minimum of five (5) years' experience of relevant collection management, technical services work, or a closely related field, including supervision of staff.
Or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
