Therefore, this role will be temporarily based in a and exact timing of the departmental move to Rahway, NJ will be communicated at a future date.The General Medicine Publication Management Lead in Global Scientific and Medical Publications (GSMP) provides management expertise and an in-depth understanding of publication strategy and management and of the overall drug development process. The position is responsible for leading a team of General Medicine (cardiovascular, endocrine, neuroscience, immunology, respiratory) global Publication Managers located in NJ and PA as they drive the comprehensive identification, planning, resourcing, execution, and tracking of activities that deliver high-quality scientific and medical publications to medical journals and scientific congresses worldwide.The Lead is responsible for ensuring the overall publication strategy for the therapeutic area, overseeing and driving the development and implementation of comprehensive strategic plans as well as scientific communication platforms and lexicons. The Lead is responsible for making sure all writing is adequately resourced and provides guidance for overall budget forecasting for outsourced publication activities as well as for planning, resourcing, and risk management for medical communication agency projects. This position is a key contributor to the GSMP Leadership Team and reports to the Associate Vice President, GSMP. The Senior Director, Publication Management Lead, is expected to:

Lead a high-performing team of global publication managers across the General Medicine therapeutic area to perform successfully in a matrix environment by guidance/mentoring of the team and collaborating across divisions
Provide direction and oversight for 4 direct reports, including managing and staffing workload, performance reviews, development, compliance, strategic planning and work/life balance
Ensure project data for General Medicine publications, including information used to maintain compliance and financial data for outsourced projects, are accurately reported in DataVision.
Direct, manage, and support publication management-related functions including scientific communication platform development, lexicon development, publication strategy development, publication plan implementation, publication review and submission for the General Medicine therapeutic area
Provide guidance on planning outsourced publication activities and supervision of medical communications agency providers to ensure efficiency to optimize agency partner output; assist with resolving issues that have been escalated to the Leads attention
Provide oversight and guidance in the development of publication charters with joint venture partners; collaborates with the Alliance Management group regarding publications provisions of partnership agreements; guide Publication Management decisions in all merger/acquisition and collaboration team activities.
Lead cross-functional General Medicine Publication Teams for a limited number of products or indications and drive the development of overarching publication strategies and comprehensive tactical plans as well as the execution of the plan deliverables. Educational
Qualifications:

Bachelors degree plus 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, 10 years peer-reviewed publication management and 5 years people management experience, background in General Medicine (cardiovascular endocrine, neuroscience, immunology, respiratory) therapeutic area
Masters degree plus 10 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, 8 years peer-reviewed publication management and 5 years people management experience, background in General Medicine (cardiovascular, endocrine, neuroscience, immunology, respiratory) therapeutic area
Doctorate degree plus 8 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, 6 years peer-reviewed publication management and 5 years people management experience, background in General Medicine (cardiovascular, endocrine, neuroscience, immunology, respiratory) therapeutic area Required Experience & Skills:

Experienced people manager within the pharmaceutical industry
Proven ability to lead/represent a function within a matrix organization
History of operational excellence, leading diverse groups to deliver on objectives, ability to define solutions and formulate and execute on actions across a global organization.
Hands-on experience in a publication development role in a pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical company with a track-record of accomplishment
Experience developing global publication strategies, managing publication plans, establishing, and maintaining relationships with medical communication agencies and vendors, communicating with external and internal authors, and leading publication committees
Thorough understanding of scientific communication platform development
Advanced understanding of the clinical development process, clinical study data and outcomes measures
Thorough understanding of industry and publications standards with respect to authorship, industry best practice, quality, and appropriateness of medical/scientific communications (Good Publication Practices)
Proven ability to direct external vendors and manage budgets, timelines, and quality of deliverables
Ability to conduct oneself in a highly professional and ethical manner
Highly organized, effective communicator; strong presentation skills
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, able to create and foster relationships and collaborations Preferred Experience & Skills:
